Last week during my executive coaching session with a senior manager from an IT company, I asked him to tell me about his vision for himself. And immediately, with glee, he said, Payal, I want to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.’

I love that rush people get when they tell me all about their dreams and vision. But in reality, only 20% achieve what they want.

You see, everyone wants to do more- wants to achieve more, wants to get more out of work and life. But here’s the big message: No leader and no individual can win over the long run without being fully engaged in their work.

It’s only when people are fully engaged in their craft that can there be an increase in productivity.

One thing every single industry leader and elite performer I’ve coached has had in common is the ability to release their most extraordinary productivity. And the trick to releasing your productivity is hidden in your energy.

Here’s something I advocate in all of my leadership training:

Productivity has less to do with time and more to do with energy management.

I want you to let this statement sink deep into you because it’s a game-changer.

Don’t be an average leader working hard to manage time and schedule, believing it will help you be more productive at work. That’s a myth in the business world that time management enables you to be productive.

Be a world-class leader who manages their energy.

Here’s a straightforward technique to begin with:

Make two columns. In column one, list all of your ENERGY DRAINERS, and in column two, list all of your ENERGY GAINERS.

Think of all the people, projects, situations, and things that drain your energy. And then, in column two, make a list of all the people, projects, situations, and things that help you gain your energy.

Take a good look at both lists. And now, focus on maximizing your energy gainers. While you cannot or even should not totally avoid working with the energy drainers. They’re a part of life. You must learn to maximize and leverage your energy gainers.

I hope all of this helps you massively increase your productivity to deliver more and achieve more in your day.

Share + practice + debate this with your teams and tell me your learnings.
